Aims
The aims of the ANMHP are to:
- increase the profile of nursing and midwifery history in the community
- develop an awareness within the profession and within health services of the need to conserve historically important resources
- promote the study of nursing and midwifery history at schools during primary and secondary education, and at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
Objectives:
The objectives of the ANHMP are to:
- support historical scholarship in nursing and midwifery, and improve the quality and scope of this scholarship
- build awareness for the need to preserve historical materials and to assist in that preservation through the registration of Australian nursing and midwifery archives, museums, collections and artefacts
- provide world-wide access to Australian nursing and midwifery resources through the Australian Science Archives Project (ASAP) http://www.asap.unimelb.edu.au/ web resource Bright Sparcs

- encourage cooperative links between the ANMHP, nursing and midwifery groups, health organisations and institutions to facilitate collaborative work
- ensure sufficient resources to meet the ANMHP objectives by inviting contributions from the professions and the community to maintain the program
